This morning I was about to get into the elevator for the school drop when I realized that I was wearing my reading glasses and not the ones that I’d need while driving. And off I went spectacle-hunting!

Ran back into the house, searching, very closely, for the glasses that I use for things at a distance. It took a bit longer than I’d have liked because I was wearing the ones which help me see things closer to hand rather than seeing things further away. That’s when I patted myself on the back for the standout cases I’d chosen for my glasses. Whether you can see clearly or not, you can always see big blobs of bright blue and yellow in an elongated shape.

In the midst of all the non-hullabaloo, was my flesh and blood…standing by the elevator, propping it open with his toes and spreading his smirk and mild annoyance around at having to wait for an “elderly” person. Mind you this the person who often acts like he couldn’t find his derrière with both hands unless his sainted mother was around to point him in the right direction. Anyhooo…

But yes, I’m that lady now…the one who needs two glasses for two different types of vision issues. For whom progressive lens would take forever to adjust to and bifocals just wouldn’t cut it because her eyeballs have bad vision located at random places instead of being considerate enough to have them concentrated in one convenient spot.

Over the years I started out by squinting at stuff…that worked for a bit. Then I started taking pictures of things on my phone and enlarging them to get the information I need. And now, I am firmly in the category of people whom I’ve always considered *old*. Because seemingly young people didn’t need 2 glasses and they got away with squinting at things just fine!

But irrespective of the decade I feel I ought to belong to; my body has firmly stated that I have the eyes of a pensioner and am steadily headed towards the stage where one pair of glasses will remain perched on top of my head while the other hangs around my neck on a chain. Gah! Kill me now :(
