this is one movie i wanna see. knowing spielberg it’ll be horrifyingly accurate down to the last anti-semitic detail.
around a decade ago there was another movie made on the munich olympic, rather the avenging of the massacre at munich. it was called sword of gideon. very straight, no frills and introduced me to a guy who’s unfortunately never made it big despite being able to act-steven bauer.

finally went and saw “maine gandhi ko nahin mara“. the name itself had made me think this wasnt gonna be a 14 songs-dancing-while-hugging-trees kinda movie but seeing it made me feel that crossover movies still had a way to go. not in comparison to movies made in US or UK but in being able to exploit their innate potential fully.
like this movie for example just brought to peoples’ notice( yet again) how intense an actor anupam kher is.after all the roles he’s done for comic relief. btw,he’s anupam p.kher now…surely he attributes winning the best actor to this move in the name change,eh wot?
but the rest of the cast was pretty loosely structured. we have all these people acting in movies who really make it look like acting and nothing more. for eg the guy who’s playing urmila’s fiance in the movie was almost reading the directions and dialogues off the script-misaal ke taur pe: i’m supposed to be uncomfy right now so i have to look down and fidget! yeah right.
but the basic concept of a person suffering from dementia and the family being at a total loss and often at loggerheads to figure out what to do with him and ,yet not have to put their own lives on a hold was brought out quite effectively. it seems that the director jahnu barua’s been around for quite some time but it took him a while to come into the notice of “those who matter” because he wasnt making mainstream stuff-ergo obscurity. and it took felicitation from his own community members to bring the movie into some amount of prominence. this movie had come and gone at the theater and people saw it wasnt a kalyug and moved on but today when the assamese community turned out almost en masse to celebrate one of their own becoming famous globally, the others stopped for a look-see and stayed on till the end and maybe even went home with something gleamed from a movie for a change. it wasnt just a time pass as usual.
honestly though, the movie’s not a cinematographic winner. neither is the acting or the direction going to make a difference in your life. but that’s not what it was intended for. it meant to get a message across and in some or the other form it did. kudos for that alone. when was the last time a home delivery or a bunty aur bubbly did the same?

had a bachchoo patient from bangladesh today. hyderabad is the city of wonders to him. hussain sagar,imax and in the old city i guess the lungiwalas kinda make him feel more comfy and more at home.
anyhow this kid doesnt even stop to breathe when he talks and boy! can he talk…his mom had persuaded to undergo a procedure today morning by telling him that she would take him to see hanuman at imax tonite…that was enuff for him! the entire hospital got to know about his good news.
finally he came to me and said in a very thoughtful way…even if he’s a god, he’s still a monkey right? when i replied in the affirmative he then said then we shud be able to find hanumanji on the trees&eating bananas instead of going to temples :o)
so i promised that we’d go looking for monkey swamy tomorrow…sure brought a smile to his face and made some crabby patients and snooty docs break into a genuine smile for the 1st in the day! -

just watched hide’n’seek a lil while back. dunno if y’all already watched it or not. most of the movied i wanna see comes to this town kinda late. anyhow that’s neither here not there-it was worth a watch but deniro was hopelessly miscast. he failed to recapture the menace of his cape fear days.
dakota fanning’s gonna be an actor to reckon with sometime soon. altough i can picture her as playing some more of these funereal roles for some more time to come.
the concept isnt novel but the setting is most conducive and the movie does provide for some starts.

havent logged on or written in a while now. i was chewing on the ear of a pal who’s patience&indulgence with me in on the wane and he suggested ,”OH GO READ SOME BLOGS!!!”. so i thot why not write some, it’s been long enough.
ever hit that point in your life when things are going well, going good as a matter of fact. you’re one step away from complacency things are THAT streamlined and then stop short and ask ,”now what?”. not that you’ve seen all there is to see and done all there is to do but seriously now what?
everything i seem to come up with seems whimsical, whether it’s to chuck it all and go for a tour someplace and see the world, or even visit lesser known places in india, take up pottery, do something that’s VERY different, break the mold, think out of the box and blah blah so on and so forth. you dig?
by definition i think i might be inflicted with a weird strain of wanderlust. but it’s not ennui entirely that’s caught hold, it’s something that inspires or outright pushes me to DO something. only what that something is eludes me entirely.

i was having an interesting conversation with a friend last nite. i put forth the funda that majority of the people usually have a moment of clear rationality before they make even the most impulsive of decisions. therefore, the notion of i didnt know what i was doing kinda doesnt hold much water.
it’s not to indict anyone, or to point fingers at any kind of behavior per se but to basically find out that there does exist a free will and people do exercise unless their judgement maybe clouded by any kind of substances which would interfere with their normal cognitive processes.
i was once told by an individual that he dint know what to do in life. sure, from time to time people may get confused, or have too many things to choose from but to not have any freaking clue at all, was kind of hard to digest.
whether it’s a momentous decision that we’re about to make, whether it’s something that’s done when emotions of any kind are running high, isnt there one( atleast one i mean)moment of clarity which leaves the individual entirely free to choose which road to take next. i’m not saying that everyone can anticipate all the bumps in the road ahead but they DO know what they are getting into. dont they?my sparring partner went off to greener pastures and left me hanging on for more counter-arguments, if you will :o(

i was going through some books last nite and i came across this list of words that i’d written down coz i wanted to look up and find out the exact meaning of.
i’ve been able to find quite a few of them online but can anyone tell me the exact meaning and context in which the phrase- caesar’s wife is used?
and while on the topic of phrases, check out jacob’s ladder the movie. tim robbins proves his quiet intensity belies his ability to really get into the skin of the person he’s portraying. whether it’s in the shawshak redemption, mystic river where he’s played a persona’s who is in essence a brooding personality with many many layers or in lighter movies( none of who’s names i can remember btw), he’s really BEEN the character he’s portrayed on screen.
