been catching up on my reading after a long while. somehow i’ve got into the habit of reading a few books at a time. something i never used to be able to do with fiction earlier. each one was to be devoured at one go and then the feeding frenzy would commence onto the next book.

it’s funny i should be using such metaphors coz the book i finished again for the nth time is hannibal. honestly! the movie just wasnt able to do justice to dr.lecter and his eloquence be it in cold blooded murder or the bouquets of wine he chooses. and that’s what chills you and yet eggs you on to read further. nevermind that you wont always be able to follow the ancient texts quoted therein or why he goes to all the trouble of setting up such elaborate scenes even when he’s about to take a life in such an appalling manner. the man is fascinating!

i cant recall last when an assassin was a gourmand,a connoisseur of good books,good living and an overall sybarite. read it just for him, nothing else!

a friend of mine introed me to a song that had me jumping all over the place. for those who know me that will know that it doesnt take much to get the bouncing to begin but takes a LOT to make it stop.

anyhoo! the song is bure bure from bluffmaster! i’d initially turned my nose up at the videos but this song had me bhangraing in the backseat!

what is it with newspapers? i know sensationalism sells but whatever happened to looking into the whys and wherefores of a story before giving it front page status?

the breaking news on the discovery of a mass grave in a district of gujarat has 3 newspapers giving 3 entirely different versions to the entire nation. surely a story of this stature ought to have some similarities when it’s reported?

and no1 questioned the discovery of a grave at all!!! it’s almost as if the bones were buried deep all this time but all of  sudden now they wished to be discovered ergo people started to spot skeletons peeping out of the grounds!

it’s funny really. i’ve studied journalism and there’s a VAST difference between the theories and what actually gets put into practice. but the worst possible thing is that people have again started to talk on communal grounds and say it’s the opposing community who must have killed the “innocents” and buried them at the site in the aftermath of the godhra riots. at this point, the hindi proverb about “gadey murdey” comes to mind…

found this article online about mental health professionals who want to have extreme prejudice get certified under an actual illness. while i think that people who are extremists like the KKK or even the age old people like the conquistadors were keen or cruel and unusal punishment and excessive force a move this this is kind of limiting people from thinking and feeling things they have a right to in the first place.

it’s my god-given right to dislike someone and keep bitching about them whether it’s my mind or with like minded people. what i dont have a right to do and shouldnt do either, is to go out of my way to express my prejudices onto them and subjugate them solely on the strengths of my biases which are effectively my problem alone.

wouldnt it be better to educate people at a nascent age? because prejudices, attitudes are all learnt behavioral patterns. it just seems a wee bit too pat to get it registered as a disorder and then diagnose people according to it. the only time mental disorders have come to the aid of an individual is when it helped him/her from executed for heinous crimes committed due to it’s influence. i mean is it really so simple to do away with things like this? have it down in print and then sit back and be proud of yourself you’ve done something to rid the society of yet another one of it’s maladies? why not try to reach out and prevent a prejudice from being planted in the first place or curb it from getting lodged too firmly? no! we dont want to try and do things which are actually difficult and would require some sort of an effort from us!!
